Please read our policy before filling out the Enrollment Application and Agreement. The Application must be completed and the Agreement signed for your child to be put on our list for possible enrollment.

Criteria for Admissions

  1. The Learning Center at the Els Center of Excellence is open to students, ages 3-14, residing in Palm Beach County that have an Individual Educational Plan that indicates the primary eligibility of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  2. The Learning Center shall not enroll any student who is under a current term of suspension or expulsion.

Enrollment Procedures

  1. Interested parents/guardians complete an Application for Enrollment. The form is available through The Learning Center’s website and/or the school office. You do not have to be a resident  of Palm Beach County to apply. However, if selected, placement will only be made upon verification of residency within Palm Beach County.
  2. The administration will notify the Board of Directors that an opening has become available.
  3. When an opening becomes available, the Administration will review the waiting list file to determine appropriate candidates for the opening. Appropriate candidates will be selected using the following criteria:
    • Valid IEP (Individual Education Plan) indicating the need for services for Autism┬áSpectrum Disorder
    • Confirmed primary eligibility of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) K – 8, DD (Developmentally Disabled) Ages 3 – 5 (Pre-K), on the IEP
    • Peer match with The Learning Center’s current students
    • Siblings of students enrolled in The Learning Center, children of employees of The Learning Center, and children of board members of The Learning Center shall be given preference  during the enrollment and selection process provided they meet the eligibility criteria
  4. If the number of appropriate applicants exceeds the capacity of the program, class, or grade level, all appropriate applicants shall have an equal chance of being admitted through a random selection process (lottery).
  5. Parents/guardians will be contacted to determine if there remains an interest in placement at The Learning Center. If the family is still interested, current records, including medical and educational evaluations, will be requested. Student evaluation files will be reviewed by the Administrative staff.
  6. If the records meet the criteria for the opening, an interview will be scheduled. Parents/guardians must accompany the candidate to the interview. The administrative staff will conduct an intake at that time. Intake decisions are the sole decision of the Executive Director.
  7. Applicants will be notified by telephone as to their status.
  8. Formal admission to the school is contingent upon a signed agreement by the parents/guardians.
